I really like it, but with two changes:
Here is a way to quickly fix the idea.
1. Each ACCOUNT will only have a limited number of slots available to make offers. That number could be one per character slot (it does not matter if it is in use or not)
This way a player with Prophecies, Factions, NFPreorder and Nightfall would have 9 slots to put items on sale. Buy another caracter slot and you get another sell slot in the auction house.
You'll be able to edit any of those slots. There will be just like an inventory slot, you drop there the item, put a starting prince, a bid time (in hours with a maximum of x hours) and then you hit a 'Start' button. The button will turn them into a 'stop' button and you won't be able to take back the item. That item will be there until it is sold or you get bored of waiting and hit stop to change the values.
If any of your items is sold, the gold will appear at the bottom of the sell tab with a button that says take gold'.
An item will be sold to the highest bidder in the amount of time set. Set the time to 0 to let the item mbe sold to the first bidder.
2. Items already covered by NPC traders will NEVER be allowed to be sold this way, EVER. You'll have to sell them in NPC merchants, they are there for something, you know.

Probably the most thought out plan for an Auction system I've seen yet. Definitely /signed, this would be a godsend for me.

That was less a suggestion for Guild Wars and more an application for Anet. But, I do like it /signed.

It would be nice to go to one of the major cities and not see WTS/WTB spam for once, and the auction house system would be a good update, allows players to find the items they want to buy quickly, instead of standing ingame all day spamming WTB.

It is something that is needed. I hate having to spam WTS and WTB, it's such a waste of time.

As responsive as ArenaNet is, I figure they must already be working on or at least heavily considering an auction house system, but continued cheers to an excellent idea never hurt.

ANET Improve Trade Please?!?!?!
I'm not sure about an auction house, but something really needs to be done soon or I'll consider pawning my wares on eBay!!!
I like playing the game overall, but I really dislike the current trading system. I feel that it takes ENTIRELY too long to buy/sell items from/to other players and is unsuccessful a lot of the time.
Since the Guild Wars team doesn't want us using external sites to trade out of game, I suggest a new trading system SOON!
I would like to see a Trading Agent much like the Xunlai that would allow you to deposit a reasonable number of items you would like to sell and set a number of parameters that could trigger a sale of the item, such as strike price or lower limit, whether you will accept offers, and an item you would trade for. This is definitely different than an auction style sale...
The Agent would allow the buyer to deposit the money for the seller and take immediate ownership of the item. Sellers would then be able to go to the Agent and pick up any cash or traded items.
You would obviously need a bit of a different interface for this than is currently available in game, but I feel this would shore up a very weak point in the game.
The Agent should allow a prospective buyer to sort and search items by name, type, stats, etc.
I would really like to see some feedback from NPC or ANet on this. I would hate to have to stop buying future releases because I don't want to spend 6 hours trying to sell a 20k item to another player or have to settle for 186g from the merchant.

since i've started heavily into the trading world i can now say that the auction house would be good for everyone. Buyers would be able to get things at very competitive prices, no more being shafted by fiendish gold hoarders. Sellers would make less due to competition but would have more buyers for their goods.
This combined would drop down the inflated economy we have and allow people to be on more of an even keel. It would allow us to not have to sell off old and unused upgrades because we either don't have the characters for them, or more likely, don't have the space (see storage petitions... many of them ). It would allow lower classes of characters and people new to the game to improve themselves far quicker than usual which conversly would maybe create twinking. But due to the way armor is set out (for the best you have to work through the game) it wouldn't be too bad as borrowed money would just be for materials etc.
I think this is one system that is very sorely lacking in guild wars and i feel it needs to be remedied very quickly. GW is a fun game but it's stuff like this that really take the shine off it and as more of the niggles build up it gets harder and harder to keep having the super-happy-fun days of our guild wars youth.

Yes indeed this is good.
I think it is a wonderful idea, I haven't had the time to read all 15 pages of posts but for now I'll just give this a big thumbs up!
